Le résumé fourni par la source
The arbitrary orientation of natural cracks in industry poses significant challenges for their accurate inspection. Moreover, precisely quantifying the crack orientation is a prerequisite for quantitative evaluation of crack dimensions. To address this, this paper proposes a novel directionally steered eddy current (DSEC) testing method, which can control eddy current directions by changing the amplitudes ratio of two orthogonal excitation currents. This resulting multi-directional eddy current excitation enables the inspection system to maintain higher sensitivity to cracks of any orientation, which effectively improves the detection probability of cracks in unknown directions. A 3D FEM model is established to study the method by analyzing the effect of the crack orientation on the eddy currents. A crack quantification method is proposed based on the simulation results, and the average absolute errors of crack orientation and length quantification remain below 5° and 0.47 mm respectively. A prototype probe is developed to experimentally validated, and the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed DSEC method in crack detection and quantification.
