The ice-covered lines phenomenon on ultra-high voltage transmission lines seriously affects the safe operation and maintenance of the power grid. Traditional ice-melting methods have shortcomings such as the need for offline power outages and low efficiency. This paper presents a online ice-covered suppression strategy research for 500kV regional power grid interconnection line based on Phase Shifting Transformer (PST). Firstly, the power flow regulation principle of PST in parallel lines is established, and the critical ice-melting current and the maximum ice-melting current of the line were derived. Then, a simulation model of the 500kV regional power grid connection line is established to explore the influence of different PST installation schemes on lines prone to icing. Finally, technical and economic analyses of different schemes were conducted. Analysis indicates that Scheme Two, by installing two additional PSTs, enables Line 2 and Line 3 to achieve maximum currents of 2337A and 3347A respectively, thereby effectively mitigating ice-covered hazards. Consequently, Scheme Two strikes the optimal balance between technical efficacy and economic rationality, making it the recommended preferred implementation option.
