Continuing Professional Development of Secondary School Teachers for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drug Use: Scoping Review Protocol

This study aims to map and analyze continuing professional development actions and practices for secondary school teachers focused on preventing alcohol and other drug use, identifying challenges, gaps, and strategies across different global contexts. The abusive consumption of these substances among adolescents is increasing, negatively affecting academic performance and socio-emotional well-being, making schools a strategic environment for prevention. However, insufficient teacher training remains a significant barrier. A scoping review will be conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, with a protocol based on the PCC framework (Population, Concept, Context), including empirical studies, qualitative research, reviews, experience reports, guidelines, and public policy documents. The search will cover international and Latin American databases without time or language restrictions, with independent reviewers responsible for study selection and data extraction, guided by the PRISMA-ScR checklist and complemented by stakeholder consultation.
