PROMETEO D1.1 - Report on existing regulations and guidelines for the design of coastal and harbor defense solutions, main existing formulations for the description of failure mechanisms and options for adaptation to climate change

PROMETEO aims to foster a more resilient approach for the management of coastal areas, by developing a probabilistic design framework able to consider the uncertainties related to the response of new, existing or adapted coastal and harbor defense solutions and met-ocean forcing in a changing climate. To this scope, the critical review of existing design regulations, the collection of state-of-art design formulas, and the study of possible adaptation solutions of aging structures was carried out, with reference to four types of coastal and harbor defense solutions, namely rubble-mound and vertical breakwaters, seawalls, and artificial beach nourishments. The results of the critical review are reported in the present deliverable D1.1.
