Empowering women farmers: A pivotal strategy for sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in the context of COP 28
Résumé fourni par la source
Abstract Women play a critical role in agriculture, but they confront three extremely difficult obstacles: persistent gender inequity, the harsh effects of climate change, and restricted access to essential resources. In addition to being morally required, empowering women farmers is also strategically important for ensuring that agriculture has a robust and sustainable future. The article offers practical solutions by utilizing current approaches and case studies. These solutions include tackling gender differences in land and resource access and providing women with the necessary knowledge and abilities to prosper in a society where climate change is constant. Important steps in this path include promoting cooperation through women's partnerships and groups, utilizing technology to increase food security and productivity, and fortifying policy implementation through thorough monitoring and gender‐responsive tactics. This review shows that empowering women farmers through equitable access to land, finance, technology, and education enhances agricultural productivity, strengthens climate resilience, and accelerates the adoption of climate‐smart practices. Evidence from global and developing‐country contexts show that including women in policy design and decision‐making leads to more sustainable, community‐based climate action. Therefore, promoting women's active participation in climate‐smart agriculture represents a proven pathway toward achieving sustainable agriculture and climate resilience, as emphasized in the agenda of COP 28.
