The Stress and Adversity Inventory for Adults (Adult STRAIN) has been developed to comprehensively assess lifetime stressor exposure. In the present study, we investigated the psychometric properties of the Adult STRAIN in Turkish in 270 participants. Concurrent validity was demonstrated through significant correlations with childhood trauma and perceived stress. Discriminant validity was established as lifetime stressor count and severity showed no significant association with social desirability and only weak associations with personality traits. Its predictive validity was supported by significant correlations linking lifetime stressor count and severity with executive function deficits, sleep disturbances, mental and physical health complaints, and doctor-diagnosed general health problems. Additionally, the Turkish Adult STRAIN produced reliable measurements over time, with good test-retest reliability. These findings indicate that the Turkish Adult STRAIN is a reliable and cross-culturally valid tool for assessing lifetime stressor exposure and its impact on health.
