Gastric cancer (GC) is an aggressive medical condition with high mortality rate. In Western Europe countries and Bulgaria, in more than 50% of the cases the diagnosis is made during an inoperable stage. The aim of this study was to identify proven risk factors for malignancies - gender, age, BMI, inflammatory syndrome and their relationship to resectability in gastric cancer.Patients in the study were histologically verified with gastric cancer by fibrogastroscopy and biopsy. They were statistically divided by gender, age and resectability. Anthropometric measurements of patients' height and weight were made, and the body mass index (BMI) was calculated according to the Quetlet formula - BMI = weight (kg) / height (m2). After taking venous blood, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was examined preoperatively by the Westergren method. Also, the fibrinogen protein in blood plasma was examined by a coagulometer using the Klaus method. From the conducted study regarding the resectability of gastric cancer, the following are related: the age of the patients (p = 0.004), the age groups between 51-60 years and> 70 years. (p = 0.025), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (p = 0.008) and fibrinogen (p = 0.013). According to our study, predictors of resectability of gastric cancer with statistical significance are age and values of inflammatory markers - fibrinogen and ESR.
