Load Limiter for Wooden Panel Paintings — Design and Calibration Data
Résumé fourni par la source
This dataset contains the technical drawings, CAD models, and calibration data of the Load Limiter device installed on Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa at the Musée du Louvre, as described in the associated publication. The Load Limiter is a passive mechanical device with bilinear stiffness response, designed to protect wooden panel paintings from hygro-mechanical damage. The device behaves rigidly under normal conditions and yields automatically when forces exceed object-specific safety thresholds derived from finite element analysis. The Load Limiter is object-specific: force thresholds must be derived for each panel through finite element analysis calibrated against the panel's mechanical and hygroscopic response, as detailed in the main publication. Material is released under CC BY-NC 4.0 to enable adoption by conservation institutions, researchers, and restorers worldwide.
