The prehistoric Lower Yangtze River is becoming a focal point of international scholarship, particularly concerning its inter-group interactions. Recent studies have noticed the pivotal role of southeastern Anhui Province in these dynamics. Situated within this critical transitional zone, the Mopanshan site offers a rich archaeological record that not only addresses the local Neolithic hiatus but also illuminates several key issues. These include the chronology of Majiabang culture, patterns of material exchange within the Songze Cultural Sphere, and the formation of Liangzhu culture. Collectively, Mopanshan offers valuable insights into the cultural dynamics of late Neolithic Lower Yangtze River.
