Constructing a Quantum Worldview for International Economic Law

This chapter constructs a quantum worldview for international economic law (IEL) to understand the economic-security dynamic in a geoeconomic, polycrisis era—a new gear for brewing a flavoured coffee . It explains how quantum theory can function as philosophy and methodology rather than physics mechanics, answering common questions about background, rigour, and relevance in fields of IEL and international law (IL). Building on popular explanations of entanglement, measurement, and holography, the chapter distils their metaphysical implications—relationality, probability, and holism—for conceptualizing IEL as a noetic unity of rules, practices, and thought. It then develops three applicable approaches: an epistemological, weak-quantum use of analogy; an ontological, strong-quantum inquiry into whether IEL and geoeconomics operate as quantum systems; and a postcritique mode that revisits critical international law studies through cognitive and interdisciplinary lenses. Together, these elements yield the working equation, Quantum Fundamentals + Applicable Approaches = A Quantum Worldview for IEL , preparing the theoretical ground for reconceptualizing geoeconomics in Chapter 4 and beyond in this book.
