Assessing the Impact of Technical Training in Professional Caregiving on Rural Women’s Socioeconomic Status and Health Awareness: Evidence from Dinajpur and Bogura, Bangladesh

This study examines the impact and baseline readiness of technical training in professional caregiving on the socioeconomic status and health awareness of rural women in Dinajpur and Bogura districts of Bangladesh. Guided by a mixed-method design, the study integrates quantitative data from a structured survey of 402 respondents with qualitative insights from six Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and twelve Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and binary logistic regression were employed to assess baseline conditions and determinants of participation. Findings indicate that 77.6% of respondents were in the low-income category and 49.3% were unemployed before intervention. A strong perceived demand for caregiving services is evident, with 59.2% reporting a national shortage and 71.9% identifying training as a pathway to overseas employment. Logistic regression reveals family approval (OR = 2.33), safety perception (OR = 1.96), and job awareness (OR = 1.80) as key predictors of willingness to engage. Qualitative findings further highlight household gatekeeping, safety concerns, and aspiration for economic mobility as central themes shaping participation. The study provides a robust empirical and contextual foundation for designing culturally sensitive, safety-assured, and economically integrated caregiving training programs.
