Approaches Used for Cooling Load Computation Based on ASHRAE and ISHRAE Standards

In earlier times, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system design was based on approximate cooling load estimation, which was done either by manual calculation or an idea-based approach by the professionals working in the same field. Nowadays, cooling load calculation is done either by using computer software or a simple computer spreadsheet, but neither of these is accurate nor updated. Moreover, the critical issues related to cooling load hurdles can be resolved by using the latest approaches in the current and upcoming HVAC projects, i.e., the ASHRAE standard applies worldwide and the ISHRAE standard is specially designed for the Indian climate. In this paper, ASHRAE and ISHRAE standards are considered for designing an HVAC system and quantitative comparison is primarily organized as a parametric study by taking the same building zone and meteorological conditions. The main motto of this study is to provide a precise procedure for the cooling load calculation accounting for prevailing Indian environmental conditions.
