Objective: The appointment service centre (TSS) was introduced to facilitate patients' access to medical care and to coordinate appointments at short notice, particularly in psychotherapy. Method: Psychotherapists providing contract-based psychotherapy to adults were surveyed. In addition to descriptive analyses and subgroup analyses, correlation measures and effect sizes were also determined. Results: One third of the 447 psychotherapists surveyed recognised a reduction in the waiting time for an initial consultation, and 25.0% considered the TSS to be a well-functioning central point of contact. The lack of available capacity was seen as an obstacle to making appointments with the TSS. Conclusion: The results highlight the potential of TSS to improve access to psychotherapeutic care, but also point to challenges that need to be overcome. Measures that lead to greater appointment availability could be particularly effective.
