Résumé fourni par la source

Description of datasets This dataset is associated with a manuscript that presents a modeling framework for integrating individual-level variation in tree growth responses to climate, competition, and nitrogen deposition across broad environmental gradients in Central European primary forests. The data provide annual radial growth increments in individual forest trees. Datasets were collected during field surveys associated with the Remote Primary Forests (https://www.remoteforests.org) network of permanent monitoring plots. The data quantify annual radial growth rates within a 20-year analysis period (1991-2010) for four common forest tree species that occur in central (Carpathian Mountains) and southern Europe (Dinaric Alps). The focal species are: Abies alba Mill. (Silver fir), Acer pseudoplatanus L. (sycamore maple), Fagus sylvatica L. (European beech) and Picea abies (L.) Karst. (Norway spruce). The data were used to fit nonlinear, likelihood-based regression models to estimate the magnitude of environmental (climate & nitrogen deposition) and biotic (competition) effects on the growth potential of forest trees. Compiled climate data were obtained from E-OBS (https://www.ecad.eu). Nitrogen deposition data were produced using chemical transport model by Theobald and co-authors (2019).
