Prey choice in estuarine carabid beetles: habitat context, nutrition or morphology

This datasets contain data from controlled feeding trials investigating prey selection and foraging behaviour in carabid beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae). Four species were tested: Carabus auratus, Carabus granulatus, Pterostichus niger, and Poecilus versicolor. Individual beetles were presented simultaneously with two prey types, earthworms (Lumbricidae) and amphipods (Gammarus sp.), in a two-choice arena setup. Trials were conducted between August and October 2024. The dataset supports analyses of species-specific prey preferences, prey consumption rates, body mass changes, and locomotor behaviour during foraging.
