Deliverable D5.3 is the output of Task T5.3 (mostly T5.3.2). The aim is to provide analyses that support niche modelling and the development of indicators for D5.5. This deliverable is based on algorithms and network data presented in D5.1 and D5.2. Here, we use smaller, aggregated versions of those networks, and study them using old and new tools for network analysis. Deliverable D5.3 focuses on differential equation-based simulations, while dynamical analyses such as “in silico node removal experiments” are still in progress. The Global Planktonic Interactome (GPI) network was aggregated by the Eigen algorithm and several versions of the aggregated network (at different threshold levels) were studied by measures of centrality (TI), asymmetry (AG), redundancy (TO), functional diversity (IPD) and similarity (REGE). First, we outline the methods, present the results and discuss their relevance for niche construction. Finally, we discuss the ecological role and potential importance of the identified key organisms.
