Tools and Best Practices to Promote Diagnostic Quality : Proceedings of the University of British Columbia’s 9th Bi-annual Laboratory Quality Conference

From June 16-17th 2025, more than 100 government leaders, laboratory directors, managers and technologists gathered online and in person at the Paetzole Health Education Center located at the Vancouver General Hospital for the 9th bi-annual Laboratory Quality Conference organized by the Program Office for Laboratory Quality Management at the University of British Columbia. The theme of the conference was “Tools and best practices to promote diagnostic quality” and participants joined from across Canada to exchange case studies, detailing lessons learned and best practices from their laboratory context and community settings. Presenters representing 7 Provinces shared case studies of how diagnostic practices are evolving across the country to meet changing provider, patient and population health demands. This article summarizes the key points of the conference delivered through 21 presentations and group discussions, organized herein as case studies across the main themes of: (1) The Patient Perspective, (2) Standardization of Practices, (3) Continuous Improvement, (4) Workforce (5) Test utilization and (6) Point of Care Testing (POCT).
