Effectiveness of the combined use of intermittent pneumatic compression and pharmacological prophylaxis to prevent venous thromboembolism in oncological surgeries of the gastrointestinal tract: systematic review

This project is an ongoing systematic review that aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the combined use of intermittent pneumatic compression and pharmacological prophylaxis for the prevention of venous thromboembolism in adult patients undergoing oncological surgery of the gastrointestinal tract. The review focuses on comparing combined prophylaxis with isolated strategies, including pharmacological prophylaxis alone or intermittent pneumatic compression alone, in order to assess their effects on venous thromboembolism and bleeding outcomes. The protocol was developed a priori and the review has been submitted to PROSPERO. The study is currently in progress. The review follows a structured methodology for study identification, selection, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, and evidence synthesis. When appropriate, quantitative synthesis will be conducted, and the certainty of the evidence will be assessed using established methodological frameworks. At the present time, the manuscript derived from this project is in the submission phase. Supplementary materials made available in this repository are intended to ensure transparency and to document the methodological development of the review.
