2024年度鹿児島大学初年次学生の筋力トレーニング種目別最大挙上重量(1RM)の実態について

The purpose of this study is to clarify the 1RM (one repetition maximum) for major training exercises and the usage status of the training room among new students at Kagoshima University in 2024. The data obtained is intended to serve as foundational material for designing university physical education classes. The subjects were first-year students enrolled in the“ Physical Education and Health Science Practicum” course in 2024. The 1RM for major training exercises was assessed using the indirect method. Data on the number of users, attributes (gender, affiliation, etc.), and purpose of use of the university training room were collected using paper records. Statistical analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel, comparing our university’s data with the national average for the same age group. Independent samples t-tests were used for comparisons between the two groups, with a significance level set at p<0.05. The subjects evaluated for 1RM totaled 1,794 students (1,004 males, 790 females). Males showed significantly higher values for both height and weight compared to the national average. In contrast, females showed significantly higher values for weight only, while their height was similar to the national average for their age group. Significant variation in 1RM values were observed across major training exercises, indicating substantial individual differences among students. The total number of training room users was 1,239. Training room usage was concentrated during the academic semester and was confirmed to decrease significantly during the summer vacation period. In terms of user attributes, males and undergraduate students were the primary user groups. The most common purpose for use was “muscle building,” followed by ‘dieting’ and then “health promotion”. The findings of this study contribute to grasping the actual condition of muscle strength characteristics among first-year students and provide fundamental data for class design and load setting. Specifically, it is considered that the implementation of individualized load settings based on 1RM and the establishment of a system to support self-directed training outside of class will contribute to improving both the educational effectiveness and safety of university physical education.
