英単語の難易度の違いを反映する 脳波の特徴

In this study, we examined how electroencephalography（ EEG） differs depending on the difficulty level of English words. The experiment consisted of an easy English word condition and a difficult English word condition, with 300 English words presented visually in each condition. Participants were asked to respond to whether they knew the meaning of the English words by pressing a button. The results showed that the EEG theta power increased and the alpha-beta power decreased after the English words presentation in both conditions. In particular, there were more increases in theta powers for the easy English words compared to the difficult English words, and more continuous decreases in beta powers for the difficult English words compared to the easy words. These results suggest that changes in power in specific frequency bands of the EEG could be used as an indicator to estimate perceived English word difficulty.
