Interdisciplinary Research on Transmission and Transformation of "Tradition" : A Comparative Case Study on China, Taiwan, and India
Résumé fourni par la source
This paper attempts to recapture the relationship between transmission and transformation of tradition from an interdisciplinary perspective of anthropology and historical studies of oriental thought. There are already many studies on the topic. This paper, however, tries to shed a new light on the field by focusing on the concept of traditionalization based on the dynamic relationship between tradition and agency proposed by L.S. Gibbs and his colleagues. This is a comparative case study on China, Taiwan, and India to illuminate the characteristics of traditionalization from cross-cultural angles.
