New-onset urinary symptoms following marriage leading to discovery of inverted urothelial papilloma in a young female: A case report

Persistent urinary symptoms, such as dysuria and urgency in young women, despite treatment for postcoital urinary tract infections commonly termed "honeymoon cystitis," warrant evaluation for rare entities such as inverted urothelial papilloma (IUP), a benign neoplasm uncommonly seen in young females, with diagnosis confirmed histopathologically, given its potential to mimic recurrent UTI. A 25-year-old newly married female developed recurrent urinary tract infection symptoms shortly after marriage, with only partial improvement with antibiotics. Persistent symptoms prompted imaging and cystoscopy, revealing lesions on the right lateral bladder wall. Transurethral resection and histopathological examination confirmed an inverted urothelial papilloma. This case emphasizes the necessity of broad differential diagnosis in persistent urinary symptoms and highlights the importance of early imaging and cystoscopy. Long-term surveillance is warranted due to potential recurrence of IUP, even in young patients.
