An uncommon thyroid tumor: the diagnostic challenge of Solitay Fibrous Tumor

This record includes systematic review protocol. BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumors are uncommon fibroblastic neoplasms. These tumors are characterized by the NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion, which is a hallmark of solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs). While SFTs are most found in the abdomen, pleura, they can occur in various locations, including the head and neck region, where they account for approximately 6% of cases. Solitary fibrous tumors of the thyroid (SFTTs) are extremely rare, accounting for only 0.1% of all thyroid tumors. METHODS Outcomes – primary outcome cases described in the literature, recurrence management - Search strategy - Database: PubMed - Search term: "solitary fibrous tumor*" OR "solitary fibrous tumour*" OR SFT AND thyroid; EMBASE ('solitary fibrous tumor'/exp OR 'solitary fibrous tumor') AND thyroid - Inclusion criteria: - English-language studies - Human studies (both in children and adults) - Design: review, case series and case report -- Exclusion criteria: - not confirmed diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor of thyroid- Article Selection Each article was screened by abstract and title; for potentially eligible studies full-length articles were independently reviewed by two separate authors following inclusion criteria. Other two authors independently extracted data from the articles that met the inclusion criteria. A standardized form (excel program) was prepared and used for extracting the variables of interest: year of publication, number of patients, surgery treatment, age, tumor staging, histological features, immunohistochemical staining, management and treatment metastases
