Résumé fourni par la source

Movement, transport and exchange: these behaviours and their organization have always been at the heart of the socio-economic systems of human societies. Mobility is a key research theme in prehistory. This work is based on a petroarchaeological and techno-economic study of lithic assemblages to explore the spatial dynamics of the Late Middle Palaeolithic in the Pyrenees.Pleistocene territories and lithological relationships are documented as extensively as possible, thanks to detailed characterization of sedimentary and siliceous assemblages and renewed field research. This work is based on the analysis of six archaeological sites in the French and Spanish Pyrenees and in the Aquitaine foreland, which have yielded layers mainly associated with marineisotopic stage 3: the Noisetier (Hautes-Pyrénées), Gatzarria (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and Abauntz (Navarre) caves, and the Camp de Prats (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Maouhum (Landes) and Bois de l'Hôpital (Tarn) sites. These analysis allow us to compare the ways in which resources were acquired and exploited, and to compare the behaviour of Neanderthal groups in a variety ofenvironments. The results obtained are used in comparisons with other occupations attributed to recent phases of the Middle Palaeolithic in the central Pyrenees, the western Pyrenees and the foreland of southern Aquitaine. Once these comparisons have been made, data are assembled with those from other corpus in the Mediterranean area, the southern Pyrenees and the Basque-Cantabrian region: this research has produced the first paleogeographical synthesis for the period regarding the Pyrenean domain. It highlights convergence areas, crossed areas and gaps which will guide future research into the Neanderthal societies that crossed the Pyrenean isthmus.
