Red-Lilly App: Evaluation of the menstrual cycle in every woman

Introduction Around 18 million women are estimated to be affected by heavy menstrual bleeding. This clinical manifestation could be the first indicator to reveal an underlying rare bleeding disorder. Those women keen to reduce mobility and change their life style according to extension of the symptoms. Despite increasing awareness among healthcare professionals and patient advocacy groups, there remains a lack of digital tools to support the diagnosis and management of women and girls with bleeding disorders. This background was fundamental to the design of ‘’Red Lilly’’, a mobile application developed to evaluate women's menstrual cycles and to indicate when abnormal values require further medical evaluation. Method Red-Lilly will be available in English and German. The user can download the application for free from the Android and iOS app stores. The first step is the registration and the gathering of the core data. Information of personal identity, age and blood group will be requested. All possible types of menstrual hygiene products can be summarized by the user. Additional data regarding Absorbency level , Condition of the product , Bleeding intensity as well as presence of tissue clots are collected. As a result, through an automatic calculation of the PBAC score it leds to an interpratation for the blood loss and a recommendation toconsult a physician if score is high. Fig. 1 Lilly-App The app is designed to track the intensity of menstrual bleeding. For each menstrual cycle, a score is calculated. If this score exceeds a certain threshold, the user is advised to consult a physician or visit a specialized bleeding disorder center. As the quality-of-life aspect should be high priority, a questionnaire summarizing the changed of normal program of the day as well as the additional required analgetic medication will be noted. Results In Red-Lilly, all possible types of menstrual hygiene products, including tampons, pads, menstrual cups, period underwear, can be summarized by the user.
