Abstract The main objective of this chapter is to identify the effect and interaction of flame stabilising phenomena in a furnace operating close to industrial conditions. Compared to the laboratory-scale combustion chamber outlined in Chap. 13 and the pilot-scale chamber in Chap. 14 , the focus is on the influence of upscaling on the combustion properties such as flame stabilisation, which will allow assessing to what extent results from smaller furnaces can be transferred to an industrial scale. The experiments are conducted in a water-cooled top-fired furnace with a maximum thermal power of $${1}\,{\text {M}\text {W}_{\text {th}}}$$ 1 MW th . Using a variety of complementary measurement technologies at various ports along the furnace axis, mean values and fluctuations of temperatures, particle velocities, gas composition, and radiative heat transfer are determined. Various biomass flames are investigated to provide a comprehensive study of combustion phenomena in a semi-industrial-scale furnace.
