In silico analysis of physio-chemical and structural characteristics of selected neurotoxins from scorpion, snake, cone snail, spider and sea anemone

Venoms are complex mixtures of bioactive proteins and peptides produced by various animals and they are often lethal due to their diverse toxic effects. Among the major toxin classes: cytotoxins, neurotoxins, myotoxins, cardiotoxins and haemotoxins, neurotoxins are particularly significant for their interference with nerve signal transmission by modulating neurotransmitter release, receptor function and ion channel activity. This study provides an in silico overview of selected neurotoxins, focusing on their physiochemical properties, phylogenetic relationships, secondary structures and three-dimensional structural features. Physiochemical characterization was performed using ProtParam, phylogenetic analysis with MEGA, secondary structure prediction using SOPMA and 3D structure modeling and visualization with Swiss model for 25 neurotoxins from scorpion, snake, cone snail, spider and sea anemone venoms.
