Ontological confusion refers to a cognitive error involving the misclassification of entities across fundamentally distinct ontological domains, such as the physical, biological, mental, and moral. This study introduces the Ontological Confusion Scale (OCS), a novel and culturally adaptable measure of cognitive misclassification across various categories. Validated across two studies, the OCS demonstrates strong psychometric properties and effectively predicts a range of unfounded beliefs, offering a robust alternative to existing tools like the Core Knowledge Confusions (CKC) scale.
