A new EUROfusion DEMO baseline, defining the size and main parameters for the possible future European tokamak, has been released in 2024. Compared to the previous DEMO baseline from 2018, the machine size and performance have been slightly reduced, relaxing the requirements on the magnet design. This gives us an opportunity to review the design of the DEMO toroidal-field coils, to optimize the cross-sections of all winding-pack components, and to investigate the impact of the reduced performance requirements on the TF coil radial build and manufacturing costs. Two main coil designs are under investigation by the DEMO magnet team. One of them is ITER-like, applying the existing technology to the scaled-up DEMO coils. In our contribution we explore the second option of the coil design based on flat rectangular react&wind Nb3Sn cable enclosed in a steel jacket. The winding pack is graded, layer wound and without radial plates, leading to a cost-efficient design both in the required amount of material, as well as in the simplifications in the conductor and coil assembly.
