The Industry 4.0 era is driving the integration of advanced technologies in education, including engineering education in universities. However, engineering students still face challenges such as limited access to laboratories, difficulty applying theoretical concepts, and low engagement in conventional learning. This research aims to develop a virtual reality (VR)-based learning system integrated with a learning analytics dashboard and biometric monitoring to enhance the effectiveness and engagement of student learning. This system allows students to interact in a virtual engineering environment, such as a simulation of the 5S method (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) from lean manufacturing principles, while recording physiological data such as heart rate and galvanic skin response to measure engagement and cognitive load. The primary contribution of this work is the architectural design and prototype development of an integrated VR-biometric learning analytics dashboard. In addition, the proposed dashboard is also expected to help lecturers monitor student engagement and adaptively adjust teaching strategies. As this study focuses on system design, empirical evaluation and validation with students are identified as future work to assess usability, effectiveness, and learning impact. This finding suggests the potential for integrating VR and biometric learning analytics to improve the quality of engineering education toward more personalized and data-driven learning.
