Le résumé fourni par la source

Abstract This chapter explores the evolution of US White supremacist groups’ organizational architecture and hegemonic discursive project. It does so by historicizing the role that conspiracy theories have and have not played in the mentalities of the US White supremacist fringe for decades. It thus zooms in on two phenomena and their interaction that are crucial to this book and this series: extremism and conspiracy theorizing, and on how explanations of these two phenomena relate. It is argued that reflexivity in conspiratorial thinking prompted the main voices within the movement to step away from controlled, collective action and instead promote isolation and lone operator terrorism. Thus, the chapter reveals how the violent White supremacist movement, which once took pride in and drew its power from its rigid, hierarchical structures and its relative ontological optimism, became a disjointed network of groups and individuals with principles of individualism, political nihilism, and indiscriminate bloodlust.
