Le résumé fourni par la source
Impact cratering is a valuable field of research through which the geological history, surface evolution, and formation of Saturnian moons can be understood. To increase our understanding of the formation and current composition of the Saturnian system, moons such as Tethys must be studied to form a comprehensive picture. This thesis demonstrates an adaptation of methodologies from previous observations of small sections of Tethys’ surface to create a full surface image. These images, sourced from NASA’s Planetary Data Survey Image Atlas, are transformed into crater population maps. The maps are analysed to estimate the distribution, size and density of craters on Tethys to understand its structure and morphology. The findings of this thesis indicate an early formation within the circumplanetary disk, and a history of bombardment by planetocentric impactors.
