Impact of rice biomass and cement stabilization on the mechanical and thermal properties of compressed soil bricks
Résumé fourni par la source
In this work we evaluate the impact of stabilization with rice fibers and cement on the mechanical and thermal properties of local building materials. Different weight rates of each stabilizer are used in order to formulate compressed soil bricks. The reference is a compressed soil block without stabilization. The results of the mechanical tests show that compression and bending strengths increase with the proportion of these stabilizers. Besides, for the same proportion of stabilizer, cement stabilization offers greater compression and bending strengths. The thermal properties are also significantly influenced by stabilizers. In fact, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity decrease with increasing rice fibers content. In the case of stabilization with cement, all the thermal properties mentioned above increase. Our study therefore shows that stabilization with cement improve the mechanical properties (compression and bending) of the compressed soil bricks but decreases its insulation performance. However, stabilization with rice fibers improve both mechanical properties and insulation performance of the soil bricks.
