Thanks to the exceptional natural characteristics and great biological diversity, the waters of Bosnia and Herzegovina possess significant ichthyofaunal value. Significant hydrological interventions at the biological and economic level have had a strong negative impact on the fish world, which primarily refers to the introduction of foreign (allochthonous) species. Bosnia and Herzegovina currently does not have a list of foreign or invasive species registered on its territory. The research was conducted through the analysis of scientific papers, professional literature, articles, studies, and books, with the aim of providing an overview of the diversity and representation of foreign and invasive fish species in the Adriatic and Black Sea basins. The data show a significant occurrence of introduced species, some of which have a considerable harmful impact, while others do not pose a threat to native populations. The most pronounced negative impact on native populations is caused by the species Pseudorasbora parva, Lepomis gibbosus, Sander lucioperca, Ameiurus nebulosus, Oncorhynchus mykiss, and Carassius gibelio, which have multiplied significantly. Therefore, in the future, the implementation of activities related to fish stocking and the translocation of fish stocks should be carried out under the supervision of qualified experts in the fields of ichthyology and aquatic ecosystem management.
