This introductory chapter lays the foundation for Nigeria&s;s Street Children: Lives and Dreams , offering a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of child streetism in Nigeria. It frames street-connected children not as isolated cases of misfortune but as reflections of deeper structural inequalities, urban pressures, and governance failures. Drawing on insights from sociology, urban planning, public health, and law, the chapter situates streetism within Nigeria&s;s demographic expansion, rapid urbanization, and institutional fragility. It highlights the volume&s;s methodological diversity, with a deliberate emphasis on quantitative approaches to address chronic data gaps, complemented by qualitative and participatory methods that centre children&s;s lived experiences. The chapter also introduces the book&s;s structure and collaborative authorship, emphasizing its dual commitment to scholarly rigour and advocacy.
