EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH TO IMPROVEMENT OF CAB SUSPENSION ON HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS
Le résumé fourni par la source
In recent years, the ride comfort of heavy duty trucks has been improved. But in general, such improvement has been limited to modifications of the chassis suspension and seat suspension. The author has investigated the vibration characteristics of many kinds of vehicles, including passenger cars. As a result of these investigations, it has been found that the vibration components in the 4 to 20 hz frequency range must be reduced to improve the ride comfort of heavy duty trucks. But the vibration characteristics of the cab suspension system using rubber bushing does not provide sufficient damping. A new cab suspension system employing soft coil springs and shock absorbers has been developed. This modification reduces the vibration components in the 5 to 20 hz frequency range. Moreover, the rear body vibration has been improved. This paper presents the experimental results of these investigations and effects of modification of cab suspension system. (Author/TRRL)
