Hearing The Voice of the Baby Through Participatory Arts: Enriching the Lundy Model of Participation

Abstract This paper discusses the findings from the Voice of the Baby project which explores the ways in which participatory arts contexts enable the participatory rights of babies, in particular those enshrined in Article 12 of the United Nations Convenion on the Rights of the Child ( crc ). Data gathered through observation of arts experiences with babies were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis and resulted in a standalone resource to support participatory work in this field. We then bring these findings into dialogue with the influential Lundy Model and, in doing so, argue they address a gap in the general research and practice literature around babies’ participation rights, as well as a gap in the Lundy Model literature regarding babies. Finally, we suggest the Reflective Guide provides necessary considerations in supporting the implementation of the Lundy Model in a way that is appropriate for babies.
