Catalytic Wonders
Résumé fourni par la source
Zirconium is a corrosion-resistant, durable metal with a chemically active surface. For ages, zirconium has been used in ceramics, as an opacifier, whitening agent, and construction material. Not only this, but zirconium has shown excellent applicability as a catalytic material. On the surface, zirconium exhibits four properties acidic, basic, oxidation, and reduction which contribute to the overall catalytic functionality of the element. This chapter gives a deep insight into the synthesis of catalytic-active zirconium materials and their augmentation with different materials namely, titanium, sulfates, phosphates, silica, and other organic compounds to enhance the catalytic properties of the zirconium-reinforced composite. Its application in various biomedical, industrial, and environmental fields is discussed, as well as how this element can be used for the betterment of mankind and nature. Moreover, sustainable prospects of zirconium have also been mentioned. Therefore the chapter gives detailed knowledge about zirconiumʼs catalytic properties, which can be used to fabricate more efficient zirconium-based catalytic platforms.
