Efficient inventory management plays a vital role in maintaining the continuity of operations and reducing financial losses across a wide range of industries. As businesses increasingly rely on streamlined supply chains and just-in-time delivery systems, the ability to accurately monitor stock levels and respond promptly to inventory fluctuations has become essential for sustaining productivity, meeting customer demand, and remaining competitive in dynamic markets. This paper presents the development of a cost-effective RFID- and MQTT- based stock-out detection system designed for realtime inventory tracking in retail environments, particularly for high- value electronic devices. The proposed system integrates the ESP32 microcontroller with an RFID reader module to automate the identification and monitoring of items in inventory. Real-time updates are achieved through MQTT communication, publishing item status to predefined topics for easy integration with external systems. The hardware design includes a custom-printed circuit board (PCB) and a mechanical enclosure optimized for durability and functionality. The firmware, developed in the Arduino IDE, enables efficient Wi- Fi connectivity and supports real-time messaging, minimizing human intervention. With a manufacturing cost of approximately USD 19.61, the system is both scalable and accessible for small and medium-sized businesses. Experimental results demonstrate the system's ability to reliably detect and publish the presence or absence of inventory items, showcasing its potential as a lightweight and adaptable solution for inventory management. Future improvements, such as a user- friendly configuration interface, are proposed to further enhance the system's usability and scalability.
