Dizziness in children

Abstract Childhood dizziness is a common problem with an estimated incidence of between 5% and 18%. However, children all develop abilities at different ages and to different extents and teasing out what is abnormal from normal can also be quite tricky. A good history is essential to allow diagnosis. The child’s ability to communicate can pose significant challenges. Thus the history is often taken primarily from the parent but it is important to elicit as much information as possible from the child. This chapter describes a practical approach to dizziness in childhood to aid diagnosis of commonly encountered causes for vestibular disturbances in children. This will be helpful in both acute and chronic presentation of vertigo. Variations of this approach are used worldwide
