Is multimorbidity a clinical predictor of poor outcomes in bronchiectasis?:A BronchUK registry analysis

Introduction: Multimorbidity(MM) is associated with poor outcomes in the general population.The BACI index in bronchiectasis confirms certain comorbidities are adversely prognostic.We aimed to assess the prevalence,and association of MM with outcomes of death and hospitalisation. Method: Using the BronchUK registry,we categorized patients based on Recorded comorbidity (RC) entries plus developed an extended comorbidity(EC) based RC plus other database variables.We report rates of MM and death over 5 years.Regression models assessed the effect of MM using comorbidity counts(CC) from the comorbidity entries and extended list, with categories from 0-4+ and 0-6+ respectively, various categorical definitions including comorbidity counts(CC).A multivariate model evaluated individual comorbidities and CC. Result: Among 1548 patients,using RC,711(45.9%) had 0 comorbidities while 78 had ≥4(5%).A CC of ≥4 was associated with mortality by 5 years.As expected Pseudomonas, age, prior hospitalisations were linked with death.Logistic regression modelling is underway but individual comorbidities linked with death on univariate analysis included CCF,Chronic Renal Failure,AF,CTD,Osteoporosis,COPD,Tuberculosis,Depression, Diabetes and GORD. erj;66/suppl_69/PA5989/F1 F1 F1 Conclusion: Comorbidities are prevalent in bronchiectasis (bronchiectasis plus ≥4 comorbid conditions) and associated with death by 5 years.Ongoing work on CC and hospitalisations is underway.
