The relationship between physical activity and exercise capacity in adults after COVID-19: One-Year outcomes post-hospital
Résumé fourni par la source
Background: Following COVID-19 hospitalisation, many adults report incomplete recovery. To inform rehabilitation strategies, we investigated the relationship between exercise capacity and physical activity (PA) in adults one-year post-hospitalisation from COVID-19 Methods: Participants from the PHOSP-COVID study (age 60.5±11.4yrs; 163 females; median hospital stay 9 days) with accelerometer-measured Moderate to Vigorous PA (MVPA) data and GPPAQ physical activity index (PAI) at one year were included. Exercise capacity was assessed by the Incremental Shuttle Walk Test (ISWT). Spearman correlations were performed between PA and ISWT. Further relationships were assessed using cut-points of 80% predicted ISWT and achieving 150 mins of MVPA / week. Results: 467 participants were included with only weak-moderate correlations between PA metrics and ISWT distance (Figure 1). 47.5% had low MVPA and low exercise capacity, 31.7% had low exercise capacity but high MVPA, and 6.6% had low MVPA but high exercise capacity, 14.2% had little deficit of either (Figure 1a). Similar proportions were found when using the GPPAQ PAI as a measure of PA (Figure 1b). Conclusion: Both daily physical activity and exercise capacity should be assessed post-hospitalisation for COVID-19 in order to appropriately personalise a rehabilitation strategy towards the appropriate treatable trait. erj;66/suppl_69/PA519/F1 F1 F1
