Based on the background of a reclamation project in an industrial port of the Philippines, this paper makes statistical analysis on the main physical and mechanical properties indexes of SC and SM soil layers in dredged sites, summarizes the commonly used empirical calculation formulas for relative density, clarifies the expression of fine particle content increment to soil density, and gives the fitting relationship between relative density of different empirical formulas. The results demonstrate that the Tokimatsu & Yoshimi empirical formula, which accounts for fine particle content effects, shows minimal discrepancy from Kokusho’s findings. When relative density is more than 1, both methods yield values lower than Meyerhof’s calculations. The revised Tokimatsu & Yoshimi formula, incorporating soil consolidation state and fine particle content factors, produces results smaller than those derived from SPT-N-based relative density measurements. The results can provide a basis for the foundation treatment of reclamation sites.
