Knowledge Graphs for Digital Humanities and Linguistics
Le résumé fourni par la source
The foundation of transdisciplinary work is the integration of knowledge from different domains into a cohesive project. What enables such an integration are the possibilities of sharing, access and the joint analysis of field-specific expertise. Knowledge graphs are a prominent conceptual framework in the field of computer science that is built upon the notions of collaboration and interoperability. Following the distinction of data, information, and knowledge, in which we emphasize the importance of attributing meaning to data and linking various pieces of information together into larger conceptual networks, we explore knowledge graphs as a concept. Often grounded in logical notation, the tools built upon this concept allow computer systems to easily process the knowledge there contained. While conceptually simple, knowledge graphs can be used without experience in computer science and without lengthy introductory training. This has led to the widespread use of knowledge graphs in a diverse range of areas, from search engines through social networks and biomedical systems to the digital humanities. The affinity toward knowledge graphs becomes even more present in the field of linguistics as there is an overlap with the logical notations used by functional linguists, what makes these tools particularly effective in making natural language data interoperable.
