This work successfully addressed the objective of optimizing a solar-hydrogen hybrid system for off-grid applications. Through MATLAB simulation, the study demonstrated that hydrogen production is highly sensitive to irradiance intensity, electrolyzer design, and PV configuration. The optimal design comprising 140 electrolyzer cells and a 130 cm2separator area yielded 1.5 kg/day of hydrogen under standard irradiance with 30% system efficiency, outperforming several benchmarks from literature. The HOMER Pro analysis further confirmed that a PV-battery configuration, despite requiring higher initial capital, offered superior long-term cost benefits and environmental performance. With a payback period of 2.3 years and 100% renewable penetration, the PV-battery system proved more sustainable and economically viable than the PV-generator alternative. These results affirm the feasibility and scalability of the proposed hybrid system for sustainable hydrogen production in remote or grid-inaccessible areas.
