E-commerce Warehouse Automation in Media Discourse and Platform Strategy –– A Comparative Study of JD.com and Amazon
Résumé fourni par la source
This article compared JD.com and Amazon’s automation communication and how they use those messages to reveal the company value and their business model. Both companies are large e-commerce platforms. They are strongly advocating automation; there are different things they are focusing on. However, how they talk about those ideas is very different. Amazon is more focused on safety, technology leadership, and robot technology. On the opposite, JD.com is more focused on efficient delivery, logistics system, and satisfying customer experience. Those different focuses are closely related to how those two companies operate. JD.com has its own warehouses and logistics parks, while Amazon works with a mix of its own and third-party warehouses, which increases the difficulty of managing its workers, and automation is taking place to help with the difficulty. This article shows that automation isn’t just a technical topic but also a way those companies can build their image and shape how the public thinks about innovation and future work through the articles and news.
