Innovations in pediatric airway management
Résumé fourni par la source
Airway management in pediatric patients poses significant challenges due to anatomical and physiological differences from adults. Airway-related complications remain one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. In recent years, substantial innovations have emerged in airway management, including advancements in equipment, education, and algorithm-based approaches. Videolaryngoscopes, next generation supraglottic airway devices, airway ultrasonography, and high-fidelity simulations have improved both safety and success in clinical practice. Additionally, updates in international guidelines such as those from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Difficult Airway Society (DAS) emphasize the importance of algorithmic strategies in practical settings. This review provides a detailed examination of the unique features of pediatric airway anatomy, novel devices and techniques, comparative algorithmic approaches of current guidelines, and future technological developments, supported by the literature.
