In vitro a-Amylase inhibitory activity and spectral characterization of Peltophorum pterocarpum

The bioactive chemical constituents derived from the plant have been utilized in the treatment for various human ailments, including diabetes. This study evaluated the in vitro antidiabetic potential of aqueous leaf and flower extracts of Peltophorum pterocarpum through an ?-amylase inhibition model. Phytochemical screening and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis identified various bioactive metabolites. The GC-MS analysis of the ethanol leaf extract identified 24 bioactive chemicals, with the most prevalent being mome inositol, neophytadiene, phytol, 9-heptadecenoic acid ethyl ester, 1,2,3-propanediol ester and octadecenoic acid. FT-IR investigation reveals numerous functional chemicals including alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, aromatic and nitro compounds, amides, carboxylic acids and alcohols. The total phenolic and flavonoid concentrations in the leaves and flowers were assessed. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, fatty acids, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds and phlobatannins. Our findings indicate that the leaves and flowers of Peltophorum pterocarpum contain active functional groups associated with numerous bioactive phytochemicals that may be responsible for multiple pharmacological effects, including those related to diabetes.
