Treatment of patients with gunshot wounds to the perineum using VAC system

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of VAC systems in the treatment of patients with combat wounds of the perineum. Material and methods. The work is based on the analysis of the treatment results of 40 patients with perineal gunshot wounds who were inpatients at the Burdenko Main Military Clinical Hospital. Results. Based on the results of treatment, all the wounded were discharged in a satisfactory condition for outpatient treatment. Wound suturing or plastic surgery in the wounded of the main group was performed, on average, on the 24th day after receiving the wound, and in the wounded of the control group on the 35th day after receiving the wound. Local infectious complications, such as suppuration of the surgical wound, were detected during treatment in 4 (18,18%) wounded in the control group and in 1 (5,56%) wounded in the main group. Conclusion. The use of VAC systems has made it possible to reduce the time it takes for the wound to be filled with granulation tissue, which has made it possible to move on to suturing or plastic replacement of the wound at an earlier stage.
