Abstract Background Lateral ventricle tumors are rare and present a surgical challenge due to their deep location and proximity to eloquent structures. Literature from sub-Saharan Africa remains limited. Objective To describe the epidemiological, clinical, radiological, histopathological, and surgical characteristics of lateral ventricle tumors in a West African neurosurgical setting. Methods We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of 18 patients with lateral ventricle tumors operated between at the University Hospital of Abidjan. Variables analyzed included clinical presentation, imaging features, tumor location, histology, surgical approach, and outcome. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and chi-square tests using Jamovi. Results The mean age was 21.7 years (range: 8–42), with a female predominance. HTIC was present in 72.2% of cases. Tumors were most frequently located in the septum (38.9%) and frontal horns (33.3%). The most common histology was subependymal astrocytoma (27.8%) and central neurocytoma (22.2%). Hydrocephalus was associated in 83.3% of cases; only 27.8% required CSF diversion. The trans frontal approach was used in 70.6% of surgeries. Postoperative complications occurred in 44.4%, but 80% had a modified Rankin score ≤1. Tumor recurrence occurred in only one case. Conclusion Lateral ventricle tumors, although rare, can be managed effectively with good functional outcomes. The transfrontal approach remains the most commonly used. Early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management are key to minimizing morbidity.
